SBC Communications
January, 2000 - October, 2000
St. Louis, Missouri
I worked as a
SYSTEMS
ENGINEER
and
BUSINESS
ANALYST
on two different efforts: an evaluation of Web support and development tools for
SBC’s effort to consolidate and revamp all enterprise Web sites, and an OSS
reengineering project called the Enterprise Integration Architecture (EIA)
project.
I was responsible for gathering requirements from user representatives and
subject matter experts. I created a detailed matrix of business and system
requirements, and vetted the list with multiple stakeholder reviews. I
reviewed and evaluated commercial packages available to provide personalization,
customization, customer profiling, product recommendations, and targeted
marketing capabilities. I then scored each of the packages based on the
requirements. Based on the results of the vendor survey and detailed
evaluation, I created detailed use case documents for the Customer and Service
Management layers of the business.
The Enterprise Integration Application (EIA)
project was a an overall redesign and integration of their OSS, integrating the
legacy systems of SBC with those of two recent acquisitions: PacBell and
Ameritech. Given a set of numerous redundant systems, SBC was looking to take
the opportunity to completely re-engineer their systems and the integration
between them.
I worked on the requirements and
architecture documents for the customer management layer of the architecture.
I performed requirements elicitation with users and subject matter experts, and
I was the primary author of the Business Requirements and Major Use Case
document, based on the Rational Unified Process (RUP) and Unified Modeling
Language (UML). I also edited the documents and contributions of the other
engineers on the team.
I created a prototype design for the persistence layer of SBC’s customer,
account, and subscription data, using LensKits products from Integrated
Architectures.
As part of the rapid prototyping effort, I managed the project to create an
offsite test lab for the reengineering effort, including the configuration of
servers, provisioning of VPN communications, and the installation of integration
software.
