Nextel Communications
September - December, 2003
Herndon, Virginia
I was
brought in by ProLink Services to provide consulting services to their client,
Nextel.
I
conducted a vendor and package evaluation for a Real-Time
Business Analytics package that would underlie a new Customer Relationship
Management (CRM) solution.
I gathered
and documented functional and technical requirements by which the solutions
would be evaluated, using interviews and document reviews along with my own
subject matter expertise. Working from a long list of suitable vendors, I
performed cursory scoring to narrow the field, using public and private
information about the vendors. I scheduled and coordinated on-site
presentations by short-list vendors to gain a more detailed understanding of
capabilities, environmental requirements, and product limitations. I then
conducted a detailed scoring of the full requirements matrix for all short list
vendors, including input from a core group of experts from systems architecture,
data architecture, and program management. The final statistical analysis of
the results, including relative weighting by criticality/priority resulted in a
clear recommendation from the short list. I closed out the project with an
executive presentation of the results for final decisions by management.
Based on the
success of this effort, I was also tasked with wrapping up another, similar
effort for the CRM solution itself. I created the same evaluation matrices,
scoring documentation, and weighting formulas for the CRM selection and gathered
scoring information from the core experts. I compiled the results, applied the
weighting and statistical analysis, and documented the results. I also prepared
the final executive presentation of the results.
