Newmont
Mining Corporation
August, 2006 - Present
Elko, Nevada
I was brought in to help manage a large reengineering program to overhaul the
processes by which the Maintenance and Supply Chain departments work together to
ensure the effective and efficient maintenance of Newmont's large fleets of
massive equipment used to mine gold across Nevada.
The program team, chartered for a two year term, consisted of five project
managers and support staff. The team managed multiple projects to review
existing processes, identify and define best practices, and disseminate these
practices throughout the state.
We developed a program dashboard to monitor several key metrics to gauge the
success of the program initiatives. Based on data extracted from the
corporate ERP system, the dashboard provided both strategic and tactical
reporting that enabled Newmont personnel at all levels to see the changes being
made through the program.
The cornerstone of the entire program was the construction and implementation
of a $16 million centralized warehouse in Elko to support operations statewide.
The program redefined all processes regarding warehousing, operations
management, and delivery to nine mine sites spread across northern Nevada.
The warehouse was designed to hold 29,000 stock codes, ranging from the smallest
washer to massive replacement engines for the 190 ton Caterpillar 793 haul
trucks that make up Newmont's surface hauling fleet.
Once the program had concluded its original charter, I have continued
supporting a smaller team of managers and subject matter experts to continue to
monitor performance, identify trouble areas, and constitute tiger teams to
develop immediate solutions.
